sometimes there is no mentor - how to pioneer in business & life
sometimes there is no mentor, you need to do it yourself.
we often look for advice or guidance from others, who have already done what we are looking to do,
this is true in life but i am specifically talking about business. logically, it makes sense to reach out to an already established business owner to guide you with your new venture,
or to guide to get to the next level in your business.
the problem is, there is often no such mentor, or at least, not one that YOU know of.
think about it, why would a well established businessman take time out of their busy schedule to help? what’s in it for them?
not everyone is as altruistic as you wish they would be.
and those who want to mentor, are looking for a good student.
but that’s assuming you are connected to someone, in many cases, you can’t even find mentors.
for these reasons, in my opinion, you just need to come to terms that sometimes, there is no available mentor near you to take you under their wing,
the onus is on you and you alone.
that might be daunting, but what’s worse?
going at it alone or and making mistakes?
or never going for it at all?
i don’t want to cause you more anxiety about all of this, so i will leave you with a personal story:
when i was getting started in business, i had no idea what i was doing,
i was scared. i thought each day that my business would idea might go under, but i have a near delusional confidence that it would work out if i just kept taking one step forward,
i didn’t know anyone in business, let alone online business that could help me, but i started anyway,
5 months into my venture, i saw an ad on facebook for an online seminar to help e-commerce business owners make more profit,
it was only $5 to join and it was for 5-days.
if figured, “why not” but i was both skeptical and optimistic,
the host of that seminar and i hit it off very well, he respected that i had started my venture on my own,
but that i was open to constructive criticism,
he agreed to mentor me when i asked if he would.
that only happened because i had already put in the time and effort to get to where i could on my own,
i wasn’t starting at zero, hoping someone would help me.
that’s the difference between doers and dreamers.
strangely, by NOT looking for a mentor and going my own way, i stumbled upon one willing to help me out,
there is a lesson in that.
so get started, the mentor you are looking for doesn’t exist for you, not yet at-least.
cheers,
